The Darlington County Library System's Hartsville Branch is hosting a Civil War 150th Anniversary exhibit April 14th through May 18th. The exhibit features relics from the war, images of people who lived during that time, and original documents from local units are on loan from the Darlington County Historical Commission. The exhibit is part of a joint series of exhibits and programs with Coker College. The exhibits and programs are made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Library of America, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

In memory of former Cooperative Extension Agent Russell M. Washington, a sycamore tree was planted on the grounds of the Darlington Branch of the Darlington County Library System. The December 8th ceremony was organized by the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service and the City of Darlington. It was attended by members of Mr. Washington's family, students from St. John's Elementary School, and local dignitaries. Ms. Alma Harris, County Extension Agent presided over the ceremony.
