SCLENDS 1

The Darlington County Library System and five other Pee Dee library systems have joined the South Carolina Library Evergreen Network Delivery System (SCLENDS) to form a consortium representing over two-thirds of the public libraries in South Carolina.
The benefits for Darlington County residents are:
  • Access to over two thirds of the public libraries across the state.
  • Access to materials will increase from about 770,000 items to a combined collection of about 3.4 million items.
  • Access to the SCLENDS app to manage your library account. Browse the catalog, place holds, renew items, and even find your next great read—all from your phone or tablet.  It is available on Apple and Google Play stores.
  • Access to Libby for e-books and e-audiobooks, Flipster for e-magazines, and all our other resources through our Digital Branch will continue.
  • Access to the libraries of all counties contiguous to Darlington County, which will include not only Marlboro, but also Florence, Chesterfield, Lee, and Kershaw.
  • A substantial savings for the Library by using the SCLENDS system.
  • There will be no additional computer or network cost to merge with SCLENDS.
  • SCLENDS uses the same courier service to move materials between libraries.
  • The South Carolina State Library recognizes the value of the SCLENDS Consortium and works with it.
The Darlington County Library System’s Board approved the Library taking steps to join SCLENDS in November 2025.  The staff was introduced to the SCLENDS system at its staff  in-service day in April.  In the weeks before the Library officially joining SCLENDS on Thursday, July 23rd, staff worked to make the transition as easy as possible for our community.
“For resident of Darlington County,” according to Director Jimmie Epling, “the only noticeable difference initially will be the look of the online catalog.  Once you look into the catalog for what is available, residents will discover over 2 million more items are now available to them from public libraries across the state.”
